Hats are an awesome way to represent your personality through fashion. They’re also fun. And who doesn’t love a super over-the-top fancy hat?! If you planning on attending Packwood Grand on Canada Day, a cool and unique hat is a must.

The first event of its kind in Calgary, Packwood Grand is a fancy day at the Millarville Racetrack with six thoroughbred horse races. There will be live music, entertainment, a signature cocktail created specifically for the event and lots of fancy hats. It’s sure to be a unique event where stylish Calgarians totally bring it.

One famous fashion lover who’s done fancy hats well in the past is Sarah Jessica Parker. She became a fashion icon while playing Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City but Parker (likely with the help of her stylist) has made some pretty cool hat statements over the years. At both of the London premieres of Sex and the City and the (unfortunate) sequel (in 2008 and 2010), Parker wowed in two unique and outlandish Philip Treacy hats. And at last year’s Met Gala, Parker showed her sense of humour and overall coolness with an incredible Mohawk headpiece (also by Treacy) which put her at the top of most best dressed lists.

While Parker’s go-to hat designer is Treacy, who’s known for his outlandish and irreverent hat designs, you don’t have to break the bank to make a statement. Both Holt Renfrew and Chapel Hats (in Chinook) and have some fun options in a wide price range.

What I like most about Parker’s approach to hats is that it shows that fashion shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Have fun with it. Be brave. Make a statement. And Packwood Grand is the perfect place to do it.
