2015 Fancy Holiday Gift Guide

Gifts

As Christmas quickly approaches, it’s time to get on those daunting holiday shopping lists. Because people often ask me for gift suggestions, I decided this year it was time to create a fancy (and mostly affordable) gift guide with suggestions on what to get those stylish friends and family members who appreciate unique pieces they’ll have for years to come. I’m a lucky guy because this list includes many items from some amazingly talented friends whose work I not only love and appreciate, I believe in.

Gifts For Her

Large Vortex Pendent by Dean Davidson ($260 CAD)

largevortex

Toronto jewellery designer Dean Davidson has become a favourite with jewellery and fashion lovers. His unique designs combine a modern aesthetic and architectural influences with semi-precious stones. And his pieces are as timeless as they are versatile. I love the modern yet soft design of this pendent which is influenced by architect Santiago Calatrava’s Infinite Spirit sculpture. It comes in silver or gold and is the perfect length (32”) to layer with other necklaces.

Dash Ear Jacket Earrings by Dean Davidson ($247 CAD)

These very cool contemporary bar earrings are accompanied by long pave ear jackets, adding a three dientional effect. And I love how the interchangeability allows for creative mixing and matching.

River Collar by Jenny Bird ($166 CAD)

Jenny Bird‘s chic and affordable designs have helped her to acquire an impressive social media following. Bird creates many exceptional pieces and I especially like her collars. They have a glamourous 80s quality (think Joan Collins) and it makes me happy they’re so popular. Bird’s terraced frame collar with one fine strand of chain is a fun twist that creates the illusion of layering.

Maigret Ring by Jenny Bird ($100 CAD)

As it states on Bird’s site “two rings are better than one.” This silver and glass pearl ring, inspired by style muse Caroline de Maigret, is edgy and fun. It’s also super good looking and well-priced.

Meridian Collar Necklace by Cat Janiga ($165 CAD)

Cat-Janiga-Meridian-Collar-Necklace
Cat Janiga is a rising jewellery designer in Canada whose geometric designs are simple, yet classic and suitable for many occasions. As a signature piece of the brand, this Meridian Collar necklace is elegant and modern. The collar design goes well with everything and is a great piece to add to any woman’s jewellery collection.

Oracle Claw Ring by Cat Janiga ($210 CAD)

The Oracle Claw ring is an eye-catching piece from Cat’s latest collection. The hand cast design has six talons which wrap nicely around the finger. A unique and edgy design that’s as versatile as it is interesting.

Thanks Marcus Kan for the above two suggestions! Make sure to check out his gift guide at Fusion of Effects

Gucci’s GG Marmont Leather Mini Chain Bag ($1,595 CAD)

Ever since Alessandro Michele took over as Gucci’s Creative Director at the beginning of 2015, the iconic line has experienced a resurgence with the in-the-know fashion crowd. For those looking to give something more luxe this season, this bag is as chic as it is timeless. The retro double G closure, removable shoulder strap chain and sixteen card clots with two bill compartments make it a modern classic. And the rich red leather couldn’t be a better for the holidays.

I have one of these leather luggage tags and it’s definitely one of my all-time favourite things. A perfect present for someone who’s hard to shop for. They’re hand stitched and also available in 17 different colours. And you can mix and match the strap colour and the tag colour to make it extra unique.

Another talented artist from Calgary and now based in Toronto, Aleem Arif‘s line Bano Emme is known for its luxurious hand burnished leather jackets and accessories. This duffle bag is a ‘must have’ for all those men who love to travel in style but also want functionality. A second perfect gift for the guy that has it all and always travels in style. A masculine and lux combo of rugged canvas, genuine leather and antique brass hardware, this washbag is lined with suede and trimmed with hand-crafted leather. Carven Pour Hommes at Holt Renfrew ($83 – $105 CAD)

When I moved to Toronto, my lovely friends in the marketing group at Holt Renfrew gave me Carven Pour Homme’s new eau de toilette and it’s now one of my favourite scents. It’s masculine and chic with a hint of violet leaf. And it’s instantly recognizable. I love it. And so will the men in your life.

And A Gift For Everyone!

Becoming by Cindy Crawford (50 CAD)

Casey Wagar

Crawford’s book Becoming (released in anticipation of her upcoming 50th birthday) chronicles her legendary career as one of the original supermodels. And it’s now on the NY Times Bestsellers List. Becoming is a must have for every supermodel fan. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed. Also, when I posted the photo above on Instagram, Cindy liked AND commented on it! That was one of my year’s major highlights.

Happy shopping!
